Life in Madrid: Week 3

Does it get prettier than this?

When we started our TEFL class, one of the trainers told us that this would be the longest, shortest four weeks of our lives, and I’m starting to realize how true that is. I can barely remember what I did last Monday because I’ve done so much since then that it feels like forever ago. At the same time, I can’t believe I only have one more week of class, it feels like I just started.

On Tuesday, I will have lived in Madrid for a month. In that time I’ve met so many amazing people, had countless TEFL related breakdowns, drunkenly given my number to three taxi drivers (yikes), and watched Madrid beat Barcelona in two fútbol games. Overall, an amazing month.

In awe of this view.

This week has been the most stressful yet. I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have my classmates to help me get through the crazy workload. Grammar rules will never reaaaally make sense to me, and I think we are all driving ourselves crazy trying to figure out where the correct word stress goes for our phonetics assignments. Even though we are buried by projects, and lesson planning, and studying, we are still making time to explore the city.

All week we’ve been stopping at Casa de Cerveza on the way home for beers to reward ourselves for working hard and also to keep our sanity. This saved me this week after I taught a painfully bad class one day…

Wednesday, we were celebrating good grades and decided to repeat last week’s activities… I never learn my lesson. We went out for tapas and to watch Madrid play Barcelona and it was definitely worth the hangover this week.

Wine is essential after spending 7 hours at school on a Saturday.

This weekend has been full of homework (again), but it was our last weekend of the course! I don’t have to spend my Saturdays at school anymore! I say I spent the whole day at school, but I guess I should mention we did take a two hour lunch and shopping break… oops!

(photo idea stolen from Corinne)

Saturday night, Corinne and I went to Círculo de Bellas Artes to see what is probably the best view of Madrid. We were taking it all in when Corinne just says “we live here”. So surreal, even after a month.

We’re still showing up to the club too early, but at least it gives us time for group pictures?

After a long night out at OPIUM and Kapital (yes, again) Sunday has been mostly dedicated to recovery mixed with some studying and FaceTiming family. Five days of class, two more teaching practices, and a final exam left before I get my TEFL!
