Life Update

About a month ago I decided not to go back to Madrid for a second year. I am slowly getting used to the idea, but at first I pretty much kept it to myself…

How can I leave this city?!

When I left Spain in June it was for a three month break before returning to teach for another year. When I got home though I realized how much I had missed the US. Driving, my friends and family, and the familiarity of home all made me so happy. I always knew that life in Spain was only temporary for me. My plan originally was two years and I bounced between staying and going often, eventually deciding to stay. However, after being home for a bit it was clear that one year had been almost enough.

Now that I’ve made the decision to stay in the US I am excited to be starting a career in nutrition and looking at apartments in Boston – limited vacation days and limited funds and all. Don’t get me wrong though, it still breaks my heart not to be moving back today. Madrid was by far the best year of my life and a piece of my heart will always be there. For now though, I’m headed back to Spain (and Portugal and France) for three weeks, both to collect my things and to visit everyone who made Madrid home.

As for this blog – be on the lookout for posts about many of last year’s trips and for those from trips to come. I’m excited to continue traveling… even if my five vacation days force me to get creative.
